One of the sponsors of the new Formula 1 team, USF1, has confirmed that the team intends to set up in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Ken Anderson, who is in the process of creating USF1 alongside former Williams team manager Peter Windsor, stated that he was on the verge of choosing their base right in the heart of NASCAR country.
« We have the choice between several buildings in Charlotte, including one in the university district, » he stated to the Charlotte Observer.
He is convinced that the facilities and services available in America are sufficient for a Formula 1 start-up.
« 90% of the technology that exists in F1 comes from the United States anyway. »
The co-founder of the team added that an American driver was planned for the lineup, implying that he could compete with the young European drivers.
« Few people know it, but there is talent in America. »
Anderson worked for Ligier and Onyx F1 in the 1980s before becoming a designer and engineer in American motorsport, particularly with the former IndyCar chassis.
