Launch – Red Bull unveils its RB5 in Jerez

Red Bull Racing is the latest team to unveil its 2009 car. Drivers Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber were, of course, present alongside the RB5 in Jerez, Spain, on Monday morning.

The single-seater powered by Renault was designed by Adrian Newey. The team is hopeful that the car will allow them to make a step forward this season.

Christian Horner, team principal, aims for a first victory this year and intends to follow in the footsteps of his sister team, Scuderia Toro Rosso, which won in Monza in 2008.

« 2009 will be an opportunity for us to benefit from greater stability in operations management. We are keeping all our key players who have been with us for at least two years, » said Horner.

« We must not forget that they designed a car that won a Grand Prix in 2008, with Sebastian Vettel and Scuderia Toro Rosso. »

« I don’t see why Red Bull wouldn’t be able to do the same thing with the new rules. The changes made to the regulations introduce a new Formula 1. It will be interesting to see how the teams will interpret these changes, » he continued.

According to Horner, the cost reduction measures implemented over the winter could work in Red Bull Racing’s favor.

The team is now well positioned to fully benefit from the measures established by the FIA and FOTA last December.

« It was relatively simple to adapt to the new regulations and we are confident for the future. »

The new single-seater has a slimmer and higher nose compared to other cars.

The single-seater incorporates an improved Renault engine since the French car manufacturer has been authorized to make improvements to the engine.

Vettel will be the first to test the new car today, before Webber’s announced return to the cockpit on Wednesday. It will be the first time he’s back on the track since his leg fracture after a bicycle accident last November.
