The FIA president, Max Mosley, believes that Lewis Hamilton is the favorite to win the championship this year, even though the person at the head of the Board of Directors acknowledges that it is currently difficult to predict.
Hamilton won his first title last season with McLaren. Mosley believes that the Briton and his team have done a very good job preparing for the next season.
« If someone says, ‘You have here 100 pounds (pounds sterling) and you have to place them on a driver,’ I would probably choose Lewis, » Mosley declared.
« I think McLaren did a very good job over the winter, everything indicates that the team is in great shape. »
Ferrari still needs to recover from its personnel changes while this is not an issue for McLaren, which is more about continuity.
« But I could be wrong and the champion might very well be someone unexpected, like Kubica, for example, or Alonso. But if I had to bet, right now, I would put my money on Lewis Hamilton, » he concluded.
