Max Mosley declared yesterday that he wishes to run for a fifth consecutive term as president of the FIA.
The 68-year-old Briton, involved in a sex scandal last year, has often stated his intention to retire in October 2009 from the position he has held for so many years. However, he confirms today that he is considering running in the next election.
From a restaurant in Chelsea, Mosley shared a few words with the media about his intentions to run for a fifth term: « Yes, and if a large number of people say to you ‘you must stay,’ it would be rude to leave. »
“It’s kind and flattering, but I have to ask myself if it’s really what I want to do,” he continued.
The former Ferrari boss Jean Todt and Ari Vatanen, the 1981 World Rally Champion turned European deputy, are possible candidates for the position of FIA president.
Mosley expects six or seven candidates in the presidential race.
« Formula 1 needs someone with experience, but it would be presumptuous on my part to think that I am that person, » explained the Briton.
