According to several sources, an American group is looking to form a Formula 1 team with the goal of entering in 2010.
The team, which should be called USF1, will be led by American engineer Ken Anderson and former Williams team manager Peter Windsor.
Although there has been no official announcement so far, nor an entry application submitted, sources indicate that this offer has been approved by the governing bodies of Formula 1. Currently, this future team is raising funds in the form of sponsorships.
The team is said to have already agreed on a logo, with a very visible ‘USF1’.
Anderson was the technical director of Ligier in 1988 and also worked for the Onyx team in F1 before returning to America. He was the technical director of Ganassi Racing and AJ Foyt Racing before designing the G-Force, an IRL car in 1996 that later won the Indy 500 in 1997 with Arie Luyendyk. Anderson then became the technical director of Haas CNC Racing in the Nascar category in 2003.
Sources indicate that USF1 will supply its own chassis from its base in North Carolina. For European races between March and September, the distance could be a constraint, even if in-season testing will likely be prohibited.
A case to follow in the coming months…
