The CEO of McLaren Group, Ron Dennis, wanted to pay a final tribute to Teddy Mayer, who passed away last Friday.
Teddy Mayer was one of the founders of the McLaren Formula 1 team and led the team after Bruce McLaren’s death in 1970 until 1980 when Ron Dennis took over at the head of the McLaren Team. Today, Martin Whitmarsh is the one leading the Formula 1 team.
« Teddy [Mayer] was one of the greatest names in motorsport », Dennis said in a press release. « For me, he holds particular importance. In 1963, he was one of the few people to believe in Bruce McLaren and the creation of his team. He then, alongside Bruce, enabled the creation of Bruce McLaren Motor Racing Ltd. »
« Bruce [McLaren] tragically died in a race in 1970 after winning many Grand Prix, but never a world championship. » Continues the Briton. « When he took over the team, he achieved great things and won two constructors’ titles before I took over the team. He, Bruce, and Alexander Tyler did great things for the brand. »
« I would therefore like to pay tribute to him and express my sympathy to his family and friends. » Concludes the 61-year-old Englishman.
