Rumors had intensified at the beginning of the week: Bourdais had reportedly signed a two-year contract with Toro Rosso for the 2009 season, and yesterday (Tuesday) everything pointed to the rumor becoming a reality, filling the hearts of millions of fans with joy. Unfortunately, we will still have to wait.
Guest of a special F1 show on Europe 1, to celebrate its new status as the official F1 radio station in France, Nicolas Todt did not officially confirm Sébastien Bourdais’ appointment at Toro Rosso.
According to his manager, Bourdais is still in negotiations with the Faenza team, even if an agreement is close: « For the moment, nothing is done yet, we are negotiating with Toro Rosso and exploring other options, but as of today, nothing is set. »
The Frenchman, son of Jean Todt, admits giving himself until the end of January to clarify the Bourdais versus Toro Rosso affair: « I hope that by the end of January, we will know more. »
As planned, negotiations are underway and on a good path. Bourdais will indeed race with Toro Rosso next season, even though the contract terms have not yet been agreed upon by both parties. Money remains the main issue.
Nothing will be official before a Toro Rosso announcement next week. Everything can still change…
