The Formula 1 team, McLaren-Mercedes, loses a long-time sponsor with the window and solar energy company Schuco.
For years, the Schuco logo was present on the driver’s suit and appeared on the back of the single-seater on the wing.
But the company’s name is absent this year on the MP4-24, recently presented to the international press. The German newspaper Neue Westfalische revealed that it is because Schuco did not renew its contract beyond 2008.
The sponsorship contract between McLaren and Schuco dated back to 1999.
« This sponsorship in Formula 1 has been beneficial for us, » said Schuco spokesperson Thomas Lauritzen, while denying that it is the global financial crisis that is behind the split.
