McLaren had no say in the Force India drivers

Ron Dennis stated that his team did not have and did not have a say in Force India’s driver lineup. He admitted, however, that suggestions were communicated to the Silverstone team.

« We do not have contractual rights over the decisions made within Force India, » Dennis said during the launch of the new McLaren MP4/24 in Germany.

« But of course we had our opinions which were expressed. But at the end of the day, it is Vijay Mallya and his partners who decide the course of action. »

« There were opportunities for some of our drivers. Mercedes-Benz prioritizes the development of its young drivers. There were discussions, but Force India made its own choices. »

Force India has signed a technical partnership with McLaren and Mercedes that begins this season. It had been said that the German automaker wanted to place one of its young drivers within the Indian team.

Paul di Resta, Gary Paffett, and Pedro de la Rosa were all linked with a race seat, but Force India ultimately confirmed Giancarlo Fisichella and Adrian Sutil for 2009.
