Robert Kubica has confirmed that he is set to play a major role in a new karting team, established with the help of manufacturer Birel.
The BMW-Sauber driver announced just after the 2008 season ended that Birel would set up the ‘Kubica karting team’. It remained to be seen whether or not the Polish driver would play an active role.
Speaking on the official BMW-Sauber website, Kubica confirmed that he will be involved in managing this new karting team, which will participate in all major international events.
« I have always enjoyed driving go-karts. It’s a great pleasure to take part in this championship where the competition is tough and politics is barely present. »
I wanted to do something in the world of karting because this discipline allowed me to stand out and later access Formula 1.
Kubica previously raced for the Birel karting team, placing his name in fourth position at the European and World Championships in 2000.
