Donington Park will host the British Grand Prix starting in 2010. An environmental impact assessment conducted on the circuit reveals that noise levels in the area will increase, but the local economy will thrive thanks to the event and be able to support the development constraints.
The Derby Evening Telegraph reports that the South Derbyshire District Council believes that the 100 million pounds granted to the project (or 105 million euros) will bring benefits to the region and that a final decision on the planning application is expected next Thursday.
« The development of the circuit offers economic opportunities,” said the director of Community Services, Mark Alflat. « The Grand Prix has the potential to attract a large number of visitors as well as foreign investments. The construction of the complexes will create job opportunities. »
« This event will encourage new investments in the region and highly skilled job opportunities, » he added.
The British Grand Prix will be a car-free event. Spectators will take public transport for the last leg of the journey from East Midlands Airport.
« We are confident about the event planning for the coming months, » said the circuit director Simon Gillett.
