The youngest Formula 1 world champion, Lewis Hamilton has been honored by the British monarchy by receiving the equivalent of the French Legion of Honor. He is now a member of the Order of the British Empire.
This distinction is the result of his exceptional F1 season which ended in Brazil with a world driver’s championship crown. He admits to being honored by this title conferred by the Queen of England, in person.
« It is a tremendous honor and an incredible privilege for me to receive this title from Her Majesty the Queen. This is the pinnacle of an unforgettable season. The support I have received from Great Britain has been fantastic and was a source of motivation, » he explained.
« This is a moment of pride for me, of course, but also for my family and for everyone involved with Vodafone McLaren Mercedes. I wouldn’t have achieved anything without them. »
« It was an exceptional year for British sport as a whole, and it’s great to see so many fellow athletes being honored today. »
Indeed, cyclist Chris Hoy, a triple medalist at the Beijing Olympics, and swimmer Rebecca Adlington, who won a gold medal, have also received this title.
« I am also very honored to be listed alongside public figures who have been recognized for their hard work in fields as varied as they are interesting. »
« I am very fortunate to be rewarded for achieving my dream. It required a lot of work and dedication, but this dream is even more beautiful today, » concluded Lewis Hamilton.
