The return of Bourdais to the North American continent?

Sébastien Bourdais revealed exclusively for Autosport magazine this week that he is considering a return to racing in North America if Toro Rosso decides not to keep him in Formula 1 next season.

The four-time Champ Car champion is still in the running for a race seat with Scuderia Toro Rosso in 2009, with Sébastien Buemi and Takuma Sato as the main challengers. He states that he will look to return to America if he is not selected by the team.

« I’m quite open,” he told Autosport. « Right now, I need a good program to rely on, and America would be an interesting option.”

« I am looking for alternatives to F1 because it’s my job. I need to find a way to make a living, but it’s not easy right now. Not everyone is willing to commit to any program. »

A return of Bourdais to his former team Newman/Haas is unlikely as the team is struggling to raise enough sponsorships and therefore funds for a second car. Graham Rahal is expected to stay with the team and Justin Wilson has announced that he is looking for another racing seat.
