Jerez may no longer host Formula 1 in the context of testing due to the new regulations that will apply from next year. In-season testing will, in fact, be banned.
The track located in the south of Spain, as well as other circuits like Barcelona or Valencia, are must-visit spots for teams aiming to prepare for the new season. The mild climate that prevails there is an asset even in winter.
Winter testing is therefore a source of revenue for these circuits, with an average of 7,000 euros per day per team.
Jerez alone hosted 22 days of testing in 2008. Out of the 63 test days that year, 47 took place in Spain.
« Jerez is the favorite circuit of Formula 1 teams, and many efforts have been made to build this reputation. »
« Today, the situation is really difficult. To date, only eight days of testing have been confirmed on our circuit next year, » said the director of the complex, Juan Alvarez, to Marca.
We have reached an agreement with the governing bodies to host Formula 1 until 2011.
« I think that if the situation remains the same, we will have to think seriously. I don’t know if we will be interested in the tests after 2011, because they are too expensive for us. After 20 days, it’s profitable, but seven or eight… I don’t know? »
