Ferrari has planned contingency plans in case its KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery System) is not ready for the start of the season.
The Italian team continues to develop it while trying to make up for its start. The goal remains to install it on the car for the start of the season.
However, if new obstacles arise before Melbourne, Ferrari is considering an option to compensate for the absence of the KERS during the race.
Aldo Costa, technical director at Ferrari, stated for Gazzetta dello Sport: « The goal is to arrive at the race in Australia with a functioning KERS, but we also have a plan B: Not another car, but a version without KERS. »
Gilles Simon, head of the engine department, added: « We are completing the development of the KERS. We have prepared a hybrid car to test it, but the system is not quite ready. In February, we will have a good understanding of the situation. »
