Jerez Day 1 – Buemi, Going Strong for Red Bull This Time

Sebastien Buemi continued to demonstrate his full potential by establishing himself as the fastest driver on the first day of this week’s tests in Jerez, Spain.

The Swiss driver, who dominated last week’s tests on the same track with Toro Rosso, has resumed his role as a test driver at Red Bull and clocked a time of 1:17.704.

However, the Red Bull driver was involved in an accident at the Peluqui corner. He was not injured.

Buemi, in a 2008 version single-seater, was 1.5 seconds faster than Nick Heidfeld in the BMW-Sauber F1.08B. The German focused his testing on the tires and also evaluated different setups.

His day was hampered by an engine change, as a precaution after stopping on the track around 12 p.m. His teammate, Christian Klien, drove the car equipped with the KERS system and finished 4th.

The BMW duo is separated by New Zealander Brendon Hartley, who made his debut in an official test session with Red Bull Racing. The British F3 driver delivered a promising test, three-tenths behind Heidfeld.

Williams test driver Nico Hülkenberg finishes last with 100 laps completed.
