South Africa has taken a new step to bring back Formula 1. The country has officially confirmed that a new company has been established to organize a first-class event at Kyalami.
The Guateng Motorsport Company was launched in Kyalami with the aim of organizing major events including Formula 1.
Speaking at a press conference and recently appointed, Mandla Nkomfe, a member of the Guateng Executive Council, stated: « We are delighted to announce that Guateng in South Africa is capable of hosting multiple motorsports. »
« Gauteng has the capacity and skills to host world-class events with excellent facilities. It is high time to put theory and projects into practice for the people of our country. »
Guateng seeks to improve the facilities at Kyalami. The circuit was visited by the famous track designer Hermann Tilke and F1 race director Charlie Whiting.
Kyalami will host an A1GP and Superbike race next year.
Nkomfe added: « We expect to have a busy year with many activities always with the same goal, which is to develop motorsport in the Gauteng province. »
