Sebastien Buemi believes that his performances on the first two days of testing in Jerez are proof that he is becoming more and more comfortable in a Formula 1 car.
The owner of Scuderia Toro Rosso, Dietrich Mateschitz, stated last month that the Swiss will very likely be a race driver next year. For now, he topped the timesheets on Tuesday and Wednesday, outperforming Sébastien Bourdais and Takuma Sato.
« I feel more and more comfortable. I have a very good feeling about the single-seater. I have tried to improve since the Barcelona tests, » Buemi confided.
« Driving a Formula 1 single-seater is something special and my experience is quite limited.
« The team’s goal is to allow me to learn over time. We are at a stage where I’m trying to understand how the car reacts. It’s important for me because I’m learning something new every day. »
His good results in recent days can only strengthen the Swiss’s confidence for a potential career start in a few months.
« It’s good, » he stated when asked what he thought of his performances. He still managed to finish ahead of world champion drivers like Kimi Räikkönen and Fernando Alonso.
« I have often been second or third but being first is a good feeling, especially the first time. »
« It is also important for 2009 because even if nobody wants to show it, there are three drivers competing for two race seats, » recalled Sébastien Buemi.
« I’ve gotten used to F1 now, so why should I be slower than Sato and Bourdais? »
