Lewis Hamilton was named International Driver of the Year in the F1 category at the Autosport Awards held in London on Sunday night.
He stated that he was proud of the path he had taken to win the world championship after only his second year in Formula 1.
His award was presented to him by another McLaren legend, 1998 and 1999 world champion, Mika Häkkinen.
Alexander Sims has become the 20th winner of the prestigious BRDC McLaren Autosport Award. He receives a check for over 57,000 euros and a test drive in a McLaren F1. As the winner, he follows in the footsteps of British drivers David Coulthard and Jenson Button. Winning this award marks a decisive turning point in the career of the 20-year-old driver.
The McLaren team was rewarded according to their year as the MP4/23 was voted Car of the Year in the F1 category.
Sebastian Vettel is the rookie of the year after his incredible season with Toro Rosso. The Brazilian Grand Prix was awarded as the ‘moment of the year’. Finally, David Coulthard received a special award for his entire career as the Scotsman is now newly retired.
