Bulgaria, a small state in Eastern Europe that joined the European Union on January 1, 2007, wishes to organize a Formula 1 race in the near future. A new track will be built for this purpose in the north of the country.

The head of the Bulgarian Federation (BMF), Bogdan Nikolov, stated in the media that he was about to submit a request to Bernie Ecclestone for organizing a Formula 1 event.

« It will be very difficult but I think we will succeed, » commented Nikolov, adding that he hoped to present a plan to the FIA on December 15, which would be passed on to Ecclestone a day later.

A new track could therefore be developed near the northern city of Pleven, which also wishes to host the MotoGP in 2011.
