The Toyota team announced that it would remain in Formula 1 despite Honda’s announced withdrawal.
The team hasn’t won a Grand Prix since joining the sport in 2002. It released a statement emphasizing that there is no specific plan for the Japanese F1 manufacturer.
The statement also announces that the team is eager to see cost reductions take shape in order to ensure the long-term health of the sport.
According to the statement: « Toyota is currently involved in Formula 1 and seeks a reduction in costs. We are collaborating with FOTA with the aim of achieving this significant cost reduction while maintaining the spirit of the sport. »
« We hope that the proposals from FOTA will succeed as they are strong and would bring real stability to Formula 1.
Toyota also expressed its disappointment at seeing Honda withdraw, leaving it as the only Japanese manufacturer.
« For us, Honda’s decision is regrettable because we are also a Japanese team; however, we will not make any further comments as only Honda can intervene in this crisis. »
