After Johannesburg, Kiev, Lisbon, and New Delhi more recently, it was in Sao Paulo, Brazil, that Renault made its single-seaters roar this weekend as part of the last Roadshow of its 2008 program.
After several weeks of preparation in close collaboration with Renault Brazil, Renault was on the streets of the Brazilian megacity this weekend to offer an exceptional demonstration with Nelson Piquet, recently confirmed for the 2009 season. It was a first for Renault and for the residents of Sao Paulo, who are more accustomed to following F1 on the Interlagos circuit on the outskirts of the city. Thus, they turned out in large numbers to witness this extraordinary event!
Indeed, it was in front of more than 100,000 people and in a warm and friendly atmosphere that Nelson put on a show for his compatriots! Donuts, burnouts, and other such tricks truly enchanted the audience!
The 1.1km-long track was specially designed for the occasion in Sao Paulo’s Ibirapuera Park. Nelson Piquet was thus able to take the Avenue Pedro Alvares Cabral to bring his R27 in front of the Das Bandeiras monument.
At the end of his demonstration, he commented: « I am really very happy to have been able to perform this demonstration here in Brazil, in Sao Paulo! The atmosphere was extraordinary and I hope my compatriots enjoyed it as much as I did today! These Roadshows are a unique opportunity for the public, even those used to watching the Grand Prix, to see an F1 car up close. »
