McLaren will not prevent Fisichella from achieving a 14th season

Giancarlo Fisichella reiterated once again that his presence on the starting grid of the 2009 Australian Grand Prix for Force India was certain.

Before the 2008 season, the Roman had signed a two-year contract, but the technical agreement with the McLaren-Mercedes team sparked many rumors about his future, as well as that of his teammate, Adrian Sutil.

The McLaren test driver, Pedro de la Rosa, recently tested the VJM01 in Barcelona, and rumors were circulating that the Woking team was supporting Paul di Resta for a spot in the Indian team in 2009.

But at 35 years old, Fisichella stated on the official Formula 1 website that he will remain comfortably in his position as a race driver for a 14th season.

« I initially signed a two-year contract that was reviewed in September and was seen and integrated into the agreement with McLaren. »

« In a few words, the team offered me a better car and a higher salary. I accepted their proposal and both parties signed the new document between the races in Singapore and China. »

Fisichella also revealed that he knew since September that De la Rosa would likely test a Force India car during the off-season.

Fisichella added: « I am not really interested in gossip. The line-up was announced in China in October by Vijay [Mallya] and I trust him completely. »
