Alonso will not leave F1 without a third title!

Fernando Alonso claims he does not want to retire before adding a third title to his record.

« I am more or less convinced not to leave F1 without having once again tasted the status of world champion, » declared the Renault driver to the Spanish radio Cadena SER.

At only 27 years old, the Iberian has won two driver’s titles with the French team in 2005 and 2006. Last year, he had a turbulent season with McLaren, finishing just one point behind the champion. This year, two-thirds of the season have been challenging with Renault.

And even though great hopes have been placed on the R29, he refuses to comment on a possible future with the most famous F1 team: Ferrari.

Responding to a question about possible links with Scuderia, Alonso modestly admitted: « A quick answer to this question would not be the right answer. »

For now, he will participate in the Jerez tests in December and then take a new break during the end-of-year holidays. He will return to the spotlight at the end of January for the first laps of the R29.

Alonso also took the opportunity to remind everyone of the rivalry between him and Lewis Hamilton.

« I congratulated him for becoming world champion, just like I did with Kimi. I told him to enjoy it and he thanked me, that’s all … »
