Button thinks he’s better than Hamilton!

British driver Jenson Button shared his point of view on the recent triumph of his compatriot, Lewis Hamilton. He admits to being surprised by the attention paid to the McLaren driver this season and would even claim to be better than him.

« Lewis Hamilton became world champion, of course, but in his place, I would have been too! » says the Honda driver at a party.

« He was very good with his McLaren, but I can affirm that with my Honda RA108, he would have been less good than me this season! » continues the Englishman.

« Hamilton has always had a good car, and moreover, the same one. I don’t see how he’s going to progress. In my opinion, it’s by developing a bad car that you become a good driver. Not by starting with a McLaren. »

Jenson Button was the UK’s favorite before Lewis Hamilton arrived in F1. Even though he’s not the most liked driver since last year’s events with Alonso, the youngest champion in history is also one of the most publicized. Jenson Button has understood this well and is likely showing through his remarks a desire to return to the front pages of British tabloids.

It should be noted that Button will have an additional season in F1 to prove his talent to the English public. He will stay with Honda in 2009. Meanwhile, Hamilton remains with McLaren.
