Brendon Hartley behind the wheel of a Red Bull in Jerez

The English Formula 3 driver, Brendon Hartley, will join Red Bull Racing for the Jerez tests next month.

The New Zealander, who has already driven a Formula 1 car with Toro Rosso earlier this year, will be alongside Sebastian Vettel and Sébastien Buemi for this test session taking place from December 15 to 17.

Brendon Hartley started in motorsports at the age of six, in karting. In 2003, at just 13 years old, he made his debut in single-seaters and won the New Zealand Formula Ford Festival. The following year, he finished second in the national championship of the specialty.

After two years in New Zealand Formula Toyota, he moved to Europe and the Formula Renault championships: First, the Northern European Championship in 2006, then the Italian Championship in 2007, during which he was integrated into Red Bull’s young driver program. In addition to his 3rd place in the Italian Championship, he was crowned in the Eurocup. He also made his Formula 3 debut at the Zolder Masters, where he secured 4th place.

In 2008, he continued his progression in the motorsport hierarchy by joining the British Formula 3 Championship with Carlin Motorsport. In February, he made his Formula 1 debut during a private test session, where he took his first laps in the Toro Rosso STR3 on the Vairano circuit in Italy.

Hartley was called in after Mark Webber’s accident, which makes him unavailable until February. David Coulthard, too busy with his new role as a dad, will probably be present at the beginning of the year.
