Nico Rosberg has warned his team that he will consider his options after the 2009 season if Williams does not provide him with a competitive car.
The German was the great hope of the 2008 season as he had made a strong impression during last winter’s testing. But he had especially achieved a podium finish in the first race of the season in Australia.
In the end, the year turned out to be a disappointment for Rosberg and for Williams, who failed to develop their car as much as their competitors. The driver only scored 17 points, finishing 13th in the championship.
« No, not yet, » said Rosberg on the official Formula 1 website when asked if he regretted staying with Williams.
« Next year, the race cars will be completely different and everyone will start from scratch. So I could tell you halfway through next season if I regret my choice or not. »
« The chances in 2009 are very real. If this season does not go as I hope, I will naturally have to reconsider my position for 2010. »
However, Rosberg insisted that he has not lost faith in Williams.
« I am still as motivated as ever and it would be an honor for me to help this team build success, » he added.
« I’m a better driver today. I believe in myself and I’m convinced that I have what it takes to reach the highest level. I just need to be a little patient. »
