Red Bull Racing is confident that its driver Mark Webber will recover in time from his accident and will be able to start the 2009 season in Melbourne under the best auspices.
The Australian was hit by a car while he was on his bicycle. He was participating in the ‘Pure Tasmania Challenge’, a charity event.
He suffered a fracture in his right leg that has already been successfully operated on. Red Bull thinks that their driver will miss a few winter tests but will be ready for the Melbourne race next March.
According to a statement from the Austrian team: « Mark will stay in Tasmania for a few days before continuing his rehabilitation in Great Britain. »
« It seems that Mark will miss the scheduled winter testing program, but we expect him to be part of the starting grid for the Australian Grand Prix. »
« Mark declared he was relieved to know the vehicle’s driver was safe and sound and expressed his deep gratitude for the support messages from his family, friends, and fans. »
« Everyone within Red Bull Racing would like to add their best wishes for his recovery. »
Webber was also supposed to participate in the Race of Champions at Wembley in early December, but now a spot has just opened up!
