After three consecutive days of testing with Scuderia Toro Rosso, Sebastien Buemi is waiting to learn the outcome of negotiations that will determine the 2009 driver lineup for the Italian team. According to him, an answer in the coming days would be welcome because he believes the team should use its 2009 drivers for the remainder of the winter tests.
The Red Bull test driver was evaluated this week in Catalonia alongside the current STR driver Sébastien Bourdais and Takuma Sato, a former Honda and Super Aguri driver who has been out of racing since the latter team’s disappearance last spring.
« We expect a decision quite quickly. For the team, it is very important to make a decision in order to conduct tests before Christmas with the drivers signed on for 2009.
« But so far, I know nothing. I tried to do my best, that’s the only thing I could do, » he stated.
Whatever the outcome of this ‘Shoot-Out’, Buemi is convinced that he has contributed to Toro Rosso’s preparation for the new regulations valid in 2009.
« I am really happy with how these days went. We tested a lot of things like slick tires with low downforce. »
« It’s the only area we were really able to test because we were missing certain elements for next year, » concluded the Swiss.
Buemi is the only one of the three drivers evaluated this week to have driven all three days, as Sato and Bourdais each spent a day and a half on track.
