Everyone understands the system of gold, silver, and bronze medals. Almost all sports are made this way.
« The drivers want to leave Melbourne and the Australian Grand Prix, not with ten, eight, or six points but with a gold medal. »
His idea still needs to be officially presented to the FIA, but Ecclestone is pushing to change the current points system. The Briton believes that his idea of medals could improve the quality of the races.
« Everyone welcomes this idea. I am absolutely certain that this is the path to take to see the drivers surpass each other, » he added to Reuters.
This year, the championship was won by Lewis Hamilton even though he had one fewer victory on the scoreboard than his great rival from Ferrari, Felipe Massa.
