The Singapore circuit in Marina Bay was named Facility of the Year by a jury at the World Motorsport Congress in Cologne.
Last September, for the first time in F1, a race took place at night. It was a success both in terms of the circuit and the hospitality.
« We are delighted to receive this award which represents all the efforts of a team and the invaluable contribution of partners to the organization of this Grand Prix, » said Jonathan Hallett, media director of the Singapore GP.
« We have received a large number of compliments from around the world since organizing the race in September, but here it is an award given by our peers: Professionals who work in motorsports. It is therefore very rewarding to receive this prize. »
In its category, the Singapore race was in competition with the Valencia Grand Prix, which was also a new circuit on the 2008 Formula 1 calendar.
Franz Tost on behalf of Toro Rosso is also one of the winners of this world championship as he received the Team of the Year award. Scuderia Toro Rosso had a 2008 season well beyond expectations, finishing 6th in the championship. Sebastian Vettel, one of its two drivers, won the Italian Grand Prix at Monza in extremely challenging conditions.
