After Johannesburg, Kiev, and more recently Lisbon, it was in New Delhi, India, that Renault made its single-seaters roar this weekend as part of its Roadshow 2008 program.
After several weeks of preparation in close collaboration with Renault India, Renault was on the streets of the Indian metropolis this weekend to offer an exceptional demonstration with Nelson Piquet, recently confirmed for the 2009 season, and his compatriot, Lucas Di Grassi, the team’s third driver. It was a major first for Renault and for the residents of New Delhi, who came in large numbers to witness this exceptional event!
It’s indeed in front of more than 120,000 people and in a warm atmosphere that Nelson Piquet and Lucas Di Grassi made their single-seater roar; an extraordinary demonstration aiming to prove the full potential of a Formula 1!
Specifically designed for the occasion, the 1.2 km long track followed the famous Rajpath Road in the heart of the Indian capital, from India Gate to Janpath Road.
At the conclusion of his demonstration, Nelson Piquet, the Losange driver, commented: « It was my first visit to India and I must say that I was blown away! I hope our demonstration was appreciated and that the spectators had as much fun as I did today! I am really very happy to have been able to take part in this event, it was important for Renault, for ING, and for India which is increasingly interested in Formula 1. »
Lucas Di Grassi added: « For me as well, it was my first trip to India, and even though I couldn’t see much, I must say that I really enjoyed it! We were very warmly received, and I hope the public was able to realize the potential of a Formula 1! »
