The Japanese team experienced a difficult 2008 season as it focused most of its efforts on the 2009 season, where regulatory changes will likely alter the hierarchy among the teams.
Honda scored 14 points in 2008, finishing in ninth place in the constructors’ standings.
The goal is therefore to reach the level of performance that BMW-Sauber had in the year 2008. The German team finished in third place in the championship, notably winning the Canadian Grand Prix.
The potential of our team is significant. When I was at Ferrari, I remember the difficult years that preceded the successful ones. Every day was a real challenge, Brawn stated.
We have the resources we need, we have many smart people within our walls. I think it would be too much to believe that we can aim for the championship next year, but we will certainly do much, much better this season.
« For me, the reference point is BMW and the work it has done, it’s quite impressive. It is still improving, but I believe that if we can reach BMW’s competitiveness, then we can be very happy. »
