The boss of the Renault team, Flavio Briatore, believes that Lewis Hamilton is the driver of the year even though Felipe Massa finished this season with a larger number of victories.
Hamilton clinched his title when he overtook Timo Glock for fifth place in the penultimate corner of the Brazilian Grand Prix. This means he finishes the year with five wins compared to Massa’s six.
When asked if the Briton deserved to win the championship, Briatore said: « In the end, I think yes. Okay, Massa was penalized for two or three mistakes, but in the end, I am satisfied with this new champion. »
« Lewis was present at Interlagos to win the title and he won it. I think the finale was incredible and congratulations to Lewis. »
Briatore added that the incredible season finale with this Brazilian Grand Prix is a great thing for the interest of F1 around the world.
