The World Rally Champion, Sébastien Loeb, has been invited by Red Bull, his main sponsor this season, to participate in a private testing day in Formula 1 on November 17 in Barcelona.
Red Bull Renault will thus give Loeb the opportunity to compare himself with other F1 drivers, who are supposed to be the best in the world. The session will take place in Spain, at the Circuit de Catalunya, where most teams are expected to be present for three days: Monday 17th, Tuesday 18th, and Wednesday 19th November 2008.
The Frenchman, five-time world champion in WRC Rally, will test a Formula 1 car for the second time after securing his title in Japan this weekend. It was Renault, during an event day organized by Total last May, that gave him his first chance in F1. He had then swapped his C4 for the R27 with, at that time, Heikki Kovalainen. The Frenchman could even boast of having lapped within the same second as the F1 driver over 10 laps.
Loeb admitted finding the rally monotonous and hopes to spend more time on the circuit next season. He has already participated twice in the 24 Hours of Le Mans and recently in a Porsche Carrera Cup race in Albi. Would he like to become a test driver in Formula 1?
