BMW reflects on its strategy change for 2009

BMW Motorsport director Mario Theissen is convinced that his team will discover the reasons why it was unable to compete with Ferrari and McLaren for part of this year.

The pace of the F1.08 in the first half of the season allowed Robert Kubica to claim his first victory at the Canadian Grand Prix. This result briefly propelled him to the top of the driver championship.

However, the German team was not able to confirm the development of its cars in the second part of the season. In the end, it will be a third place for BMW-Sauber in the constructors’ standings.

Knowing how to constantly develop is the key to winning one or more titles. Theissen asserts that his team will know what to do in 2009 to ensure the situation doesn’t repeat two years in a row.

« We are now in a process of analysis, » responded the German on the question of development.

« Our satisfactory results at the beginning of the 2008 season must be reproduced throughout 2009. Therefore, it is necessary to constantly think that the cars are not performing well. »

According to Theissen, the start of work on the F1.09 never hindered the results of this season and he claims that BMW managed to handle two different programs. Differences that arose notably in terms of aerodynamics.
