As a general rule, teams are not allowed to have two cars of different colors. The Scotsman welcomed the support of the other team principals with satisfaction. The FIA also approved the project in light of such significant mobilization.
« When BAR tried to get permission to compete with two different cars, they were told they couldn’t do it, » added Coulthard at Interlagos.
BAR Honda had indeed presented its F1 cars in different colors at the beginning of the 1999 season. One was blue to satisfy the sponsor with the number 5 and the other was white, in the interest of a famous cigarette company with a round logo. The team, without authorization, then decided to split its car in two. One side blue, one side white….
« In our case, we had the agreement of all the other team directors, which was not the case for BAR. This shows that when it comes to a truly charitable cause, teams know how to mobilize and show heart. »
« My wishes have been granted. It is a pleasure to end my career on such a high note. »
