Fernando Alonso expressed his desire to see Felipe Massa win the world championship in Brazil this weekend. He has nothing against Lewis Hamilton, but he does not want to see his former team McLaren triumph.
The Spaniard experienced a turbulent 2007 season with McLaren and chose to cut it short by rejecting his contract with the team to rejoin Renault.
Having announced in recent weeks that he would prefer to see Massa win the championship rather than Hamilton, Alonso made it clear on the eve of the Brazilian event why he had such feelings.
Alonso describes his relationship with the Brit: « I have said it many times, I have a lot of respect for Lewis and we talk to each other. »
Last year, it was the same thing. We talked together and we didn’t have any problems. As for the titles, I think I would prefer any other team than McLaren.
Alonso thinks there is no doubt that Hamilton will manage to at least rank fifth to be in a position to win the championship.
« Lewis is the clear favorite. He has a seven-point lead. It’s easy for him to finish in the top five because he is fast. »
About the race itself, the Iberian added: « I think nothing serious will happen. This is a normal situation and a normal race. »
