After Johannesburg, the Technocenter near Paris, and more recently Kiev, it was in Lisbon that Renault made its single-seaters roar this weekend as part of its Roadshow 2008 program. After several weeks of preparation in close collaboration with Renault Portugal, the French team was in the streets of the Portuguese capital this weekend to offer an exceptional demonstration with Lucas Di Grassi at the wheel of the R27, a first for the people of Lisbon, who came in great numbers for the occasion.
It was indeed in front of more than 100,000 people and in a particularly warm atmosphere that the young Brazilian, the third driver of the Losange team, revved up his single-seater. Donuts, burnouts, and other maneuvers aimed at showcasing the full potential of a Formula 1 car were greatly appreciated by the audience!
The route, specially designed for the occasion, ran along the famous Avenida da Liberdade, Marquês de Pombal Square, and Restauradores Square, thus allowing Renault to offer an exceptional demonstration in a warm and friendly atmosphere, the key elements of this Roadshow program.
Lucas di Grassi commented upon exiting the cockpit: « We were very well received in Lisbon, we aimed to offer a quality show and I believe we succeeded! The public came in great numbers and I hope they enjoyed it as much as I did… Driving in the city is still something very impressive and very intense because the audience is so close… it’s a very strong feeling and I had a lot of fun this weekend! »
