McLaren will introduce a new rear wing and a series of other aerodynamic modifications for the Brazilian Grand Prix to maximize their chances of winning the championship.
Lewis Hamilton only needs fifth place to become the new F1 champion. However, the Woking team doesn’t want to take any risks and aims to further improve the performance of its MP4/23.
Although the most visible difference is this new rear wing, there will be at least six other areas that have been reworked on the car. At the Interlagos circuit, the British team will have, among other things, a new aerodynamic package.
McLaren F1 team principal Martin Whitmarsh stated that his team had worked on new elements that were approved following the Chinese Grand Prix.
« We have focused all our efforts on aerodynamics with a set of measures to improve the car’s efficiency. »
The team manager, Ron Dennis, added: « It is very likely, if it happens, that it will be a lack of reliability that causes us a problem. So we will exercise caution with the tires, the rain, and all sorts of things. »
« But we have to wait until Friday morning, the time of the first trials, » he concluded.
