Robert Kubica is not disappointed with his year at BMW-Sauber even though he thinks he could have done better and perhaps won a title or titles.
The Pole was in contention for the title until last weekend at the Chinese Grand Prix, but now he will have to settle for third place. However, he should be wary of Kimi Räikkönen’s comeback in Brazil.
He was the championship leader in 2008 after securing a victory, which was in Canada last June. He also did everything he could to lead his team to the top by trying to win the constructors’ title.
Even with a good level of consistency and reliability, the team did not have enough pace against McLaren and Ferrari in the penultimate race of the season.
Speaking on the official BMW-Sauber site, Kubica stated that the disappointment wasn’t too overwhelming regarding the turn of events.
« It was an excellent season for me as I will finish in the top three. You don’t know if, over the next five years, you will be leading the world championship again after only seven races. Our consistency and reliability were high, which is what allowed us to compete in the championships. »
He added: « I have always been fast and made very few mistakes. I am very ambitious and always give 100%, but you always have the feeling that you can do better. However, we must be happy with what we have accomplished. »
