Scuderia Toro Rosso will not reveal the identity of its drivers before the end of the season. The fate of Sébastien Bourdais will therefore not be finalized in the coming days as the team wishes to continue considering its options.
The small Italian team is already looking for a replacement for Sebastian Vettel. Bourdais’ future remains uncertain after a difficult first part of the season.
However, good performances on his part in these last races, including in Japan last weekend without this penalty, play in favor of the Frenchman for 2009.
Gerhard Berger, the co-owner of STR will wait a bit before making a decision, although he admitted that Bourdais is now meeting the expectations placed on him.
When asked if the Manceau’s result at Fuji has increased his chances for next year, Berger stated: « I don’t want to say anything at this stage because we want to settle this matter with a clear head. »
Bourdais lost all his points earned in Japan after being penalized for a collision with Felipe Massa. Berger is adamant that his driver did nothing wrong.
Bourdais was on the inside and if Massa had given him two more centimeters, both cars would have passed. It’s simply a racing incident.
