Bridgestone, the official tire supplier, is evaluating the data collected during the Jerez tests for the design of a single set of tires for wet conditions.
The Japanese firm has been asked to create a single type of wet tire that would eventually replace the two compounds currently used in F1. This would thus be a mix between extreme and intermediate tires.
Although Bridgestone has not confirmed the names of the drivers who tested this type of tire when rain hit the Spanish track, a spokesperson indicated that the data is now under review to decide whether or not to continue the work.
Bridgestone Motorsport director, Hirohide Hamashima, recently stated that he preferred the current option with two types of wet tires. The idea of a single compound came at the request of the F1 teams.
« Last year, after the race at Nurburgring, the teams made this request when a former Spyker (currently Force India) led the race after a red flag, » he stated.
