The official tire supplier, Bridgestone remains undecided about the idea of introducing only one type of wet weather tire in Formula 1.
« It is not yet clear for everyone, » said Hirohide Hamashima, who is head of development at Bridgestone.
« We will experiment with this idea in the next season and then we will see the conclusions to be drawn. »
The F1 teams asked Bridgestone last year to consider the possibility of producing only one type of wet tire due to the huge performance difference between intermediate and extreme tires.
Hamashima claims that the teams have since changed their minds and also acknowledges that two types of tires would be safer.
“We prefer two types of tires for wet conditions, it brings more safety,” he added.
« But as you know, the reason why we developed only one type of wet tires comes from a request from the teams. But today, their opinion is different. They refuse one specification.
