Under the terms of this racing weekend in Belgium, the Red Bull Racing team experienced difficult moments. Consequently, the race was no exception. Webber, hit by Kovalainen, lost a lot of time and should have finished on the brink of the points in 9th place. However, Glock, who was ahead of him, received a 25-second penalty.
The Australian therefore earns a point while his teammate finishes in 11th position. In the standings, the team, which hadn’t scored any points for a long time, is back on the attack. They must continue this way to solidify their seemingly promised 6th place.
Mark Webber – 8th:
« The first laps were quite difficult due to the conditions, but our start was decent. I lost some time behind Bourdais, who was fuel-laden, but we were still in a reasonable position. »
« Then I was hit by Heikki Kovalainen and I lost some time. This upset our strategy, which was very aggressive. The car behaved better in the last stint. »
David Coulthard – 11th:
« I found myself stuck behind the Honda for a large number of laps. The changing conditions made things move at the end. We probably should have switched to intermediate tires a lap earlier. »
Christian Horner – Technical Director:
« A difficult afternoon for the drivers and the whole team. Mark Webber was unlucky in the first stint of the race when he was hit by a very opportunistic Kovalainen. This cost him a lot of time and positions. In the final laps, Mark Webber’s car had dry tires and David Coulthard’s had intermediates. »
« Precisely, David Coulthard had a poor start, and we chose to make him stop only once. A strategy that had to be adjusted according to the conditions. The rain only came three laps before the end. Today, the result does not reflect the hard work the team puts in, but I believe the tide will soon turn in our favor. »
