The race in Valencia two weeks ago—was it an exception for the Williams team? For this 13th round of the championship taking place in Belgium, the Grove-based team is once again far from its early season results.
Tomorrow, the two drivers, Rosberg and Nakajima, will start from very far back on the grid. The German made it to Q2 during the qualifications but finished 15th, while the Japanese driver finds himself on the last row. The latter has still not been confirmed for 2009…
Nico Rosberg – 8th and 15th:
« Although Spa is not the track where we feel most comfortable, I didn’t expect such a poor performance from myself. In my opinion, my car was well-balanced but there was a lack of grip that really held me back. Obviously, if it rains tomorrow, it could only benefit me; otherwise, the race will be very difficult. »
Kazuki Nakajima – 16th and 19th:
« I felt that my car was better in practice this morning despite the dry conditions in qualifying. This afternoon, I couldn’t find any grip and I still don’t know why. Tomorrow’s race will be long and starting 19th will make things more difficult. »
Sam Michael – Director of Engineering:
The session was disappointing for Nico Rosberg who didn’t have the opportunity to make it into the super pole. He made the most of the car and was competitive in sectors 1 and 3 but couldn’t improve in the second sector. That’s where our weakness lies. We know that Spa is a demanding track. We will now work on our strategy and, as always, we’ll try to get into the points.
