This is undoubtedly one of the first times we’ve seen the Toyota team in such a position! Indeed, neither of the two drivers managed to secure a spot in Q1, and the morning tests are hardly more encouraging.
Jarno Trulli finishes 11th by a few tenths of a second behind Mark Webber, who is 10th, but he will have the advantage of choosing his strategy until the start of the race. Glock is not in the mix at all. He is only 15th and is struggling with his tires.
Jarno Trulli – 11th and 11th:
« We knew we wouldn’t be at our best today with these low temperatures. It was a difficult qualifying session for us, which has been the trend since the beginning of the weekend. It is very difficult to get the right tire temperature, which affected the car’s balance. »
« Also, the engine I have is being used for the second time, and we know the importance of the engine here because you have long straight lines. Generally, in the second race, the engine loses a bit of power. Tomorrow is another day, and I will do my best. The only positive point is that we can choose our strategy just before the race. »
Timo Glock – 15th and 13th:
« It was a difficult session for me today. In practice, we had some trouble getting the tires to the right temperature and we suffered from this issue again in qualifying. »
Making the right decisions today has proven difficult, and it is hardly conceivable to see things change by tomorrow. It would be an advantage for me if it rains tomorrow because I like these conditions and our car performs well if there’s a bit of rain. Whatever happens, the work will allow us to achieve the best possible result.
Pascal Vasselon – General Director:
« It’s one of our worst qualifying results of the season and it means that there is something wrong with our preparation work. We will be busy tonight and tomorrow morning trying to understand what happened. »
