Kimi Räikkönen prefers to warn his competitors that an increase in the competitiveness of his F2008 is expected by the end of the weekend. The Finn has already made an impression during the second practice session of the European Grand Prix in Valencia.

The reigning world champion, who had more difficulties in qualifying than his teammate Felipe Massa in recent races, confirmed that he plans to focus on his position on the starting grid. This desire will be even stronger this weekend, as overtaking may prove difficult on this new street circuit.

« The overtakes? They will be difficult, as always: I have to hope that I get the best possible position in qualifying, » he commented.

« Yesterday’s configuration is not bad but there is still much room for improvement. »

Räikkönen added that he enjoyed driving on this new track and was looking forward to the rest of the weekend with great interest.

I love driving on this track; it is really different from other urban circuits we know. On Thursday, I walked a lap and immediately thought it would be fun to race here, and this impression was confirmed with the first practice sessions.

« There are very fast sections and a lot of runoff areas that make me think of certain North American tracks. The organizers have really done a great job, » concluded Räikkönen.
