Nico Rosberg will stay with Williams in 2009, but the German is not sure that this team can allow him to win a title.
The 23-year-old driver is part of the highly-rated young generation in the F1 world, but despite numerous rumors claiming he is set to join McLaren or BMW-Sauber, he remains under contract with the Grove team for a fourth consecutive season in 2009.
But when GPWeek asked him if he can one day become world champion with Williams, Rosberg replied: « I can’t really answer that question at the moment. »
« We have other things to worry about and we need to get back on the right track. »
Despite a promising start with a podium in Melbourne, Williams’ 2008 campaign seems to have stalled, raising suggestions about the team’s willingness to fully commit to the next season. The announced changes in regulations provide additional assistance.
Rosberg confirms: « We can certainly do better than currently, particularly thanks to the rule changes. It’s a great opportunity to offer a high-performance car. »
He finally confirmed that he would still be a Williams driver in 2009.
« The future is here with Williams for next year. Then, we’ll see. »
