The latest rumor in the Formula 1 world is that Japanese driver Takuma Sato could be returning to the premier category of motorsport. We remember that the former Super Aguri driver disappeared from the scene at the same time as his team last May.
He turned down several opportunities to race at Le Mans or in the United States « in order to focus on his comeback to the forefront in F1 ».
« There is nothing concrete at the moment. I am talking with some teams, » he declared.
Motorsport Aktuell, the Swiss magazine, reports that Sato, who has competed in nearly 100 Grand Prix since his debut with Jordan in 2002, is linked to Toro Rosso for a seat in 2009.
The little Scuderia could very well have two vacant seats by the end of the year, considering Sebastian Vettel’s transfer to the parent team Red Bull, and the fluctuations in form of his teammate Sébastien Bourdais, which ultimately leave a shadow of doubt.
The Co-owner of STR, Gerhard Berger explained that his ideal line-up for 2009 would be a young driver, for example, Bruno Senna or Sébastien Buemi, alongside a more experienced driver.
Motorsport Aktuell reports that Sato is a potential candidate, not only for his experience but also to help the energy drink Red Bull penetrate the Japanese market, which is proving to be difficult.
